A Maytag front-load washer (model YMHWE201YW00) in a downtown East Village condo was stopping mid-cycle with an FE32 error during the rinse phase. The timing is a diagnostic clue in itself: the fault appeared specifically when the machine was managing water fill during rinse, not during the wash.
On Maytag and Whirlpool front-loaders, the FE family of codes flags a water-fill problem — the expected water level or temperature is not being achieved and confirmed within the control’s timing window. The job was to isolate which part of the fill circuit was reporting incorrectly.
TechVill technician Marlon traced the FE32 fault to two components working in concert: the water temperature sensor, which reads incoming water temperature, and the water level switch, which controls how much water the machine takes on. Both feed the control’s fill logic, and both were replaced together rather than one at a time.
Components replaced:
- Water temperature sensor (part #WPW10467289) — reads the temperature of incoming water so the control can manage the fill
- Water level switch (part #W11417623) — signals the water level in the tub so the control knows when the fill is complete
That “both together” decision is the point of the case. When two parts in the same circuit are implicated in one fault, replacing only one invites the other to fail shortly after and drags the customer back into a second service call — with a second trip charge. Renewing both closes the FE32 fault in one scope. Front-load washers of this design also need two technicians for the disassembly and reassembly, which is reflected in the labour.
The repair was quoted at $623.70 CAD ($594 + 5% GST): parts $254, two-technician labour $290, and a $50 handling fee, with the parts installed on the return visit.
