A customer in the Terra Nova area of Richmond called TechVill about water leaking from the dispenser side of their LG French-door refrigerator, model LFXS30796S. They had already formed a useful hypothesis: the leak looked like it was coming from the filter’s mounting adaptor, not from the cartridge itself.
That distinction matters. A cracked or poorly seated filter cartridge tends to weep from the cartridge body. A leak at the mounting interface points instead at the filter head assembly — the housing the cartridge twists into, sealed by O-rings that harden and lose their grip over years of service. The customer’s read was correct, and it shaped the diagnosis on arrival.
TechVill technician Alex confirmed the leak originated at the head assembly, then replaced both the head and the cartridge together so the sealing surfaces would be fresh on both mating parts. Replacing only one side of a worn seal pair is a common way for a “fixed” leak to return within weeks. After the install, Alex ran the dispenser and checked for weeping — the unit was dry, and the job was closed on the same visit in about 25 minutes.
Components replaced:
- Filter head assembly (part #AKN72949003) — the housing the water filter twists into; its O-rings seal the cartridge against the incoming water line and were the source of the leak
- Water filter cartridge (part #AGF80300705, LT1000P) — the replaceable carbon filter that seats inside the head
The total was $714 CAD ($680 + 5% GST), covering parts, a parts handling fee, labour, and the service call across the diagnostic and install visits.
One detail worth spelling out: warranty on the part, not the consumable
The work order carried a deliberately precise warranty note: the 90-day labour warranty applies to the filter head assembly, not to the water filter cartridge. That is not fine print meant to narrow coverage — it is an accurate description of what each item is.
The head assembly is a mechanical component; if it fails early, that is a defect worth standing behind. The cartridge is a consumable with a finite service life, designed to be swapped roughly every six months as it exhausts its carbon capacity. Warranting a consumable “for 90 days” would imply it should last only that long, which is misleading in the other direction. Telling the customer plainly which item is covered, and which is expected to be replaced on a schedule, leaves them with an accurate picture for the next service call.
