A one-year-old GE Profile dryer (model PFD87ESMV0RS) in the Amber Trails area of NW Winnipeg would not spin. On a nearly new unit, that is a jarring symptom — and the owner had reasonably concluded the motor had seized. A motor failure on a one-year-old dryer would be unusual, but “won’t spin” is exactly what a seized motor feels like from the outside, so it was a fair guess to bring to the call.

The difference between a guess and a diagnosis is that TechVill technician Anghesom opened the dryer up to look, rather than quoting the part the symptom suggested. Inside, the cause was mechanical and simple: a pair of pants had migrated into the fan area and was physically blocking rotation. The motor was fine. The obstruction was doing a convincing impression of a dead motor.
Anghesom removed the item of clothing, verified the motor and fan turned freely and ran correctly, and returned the dryer to service. The visit ran about 45 minutes — diagnosis, disassembly, clearing the obstruction, reassembly, and a test.

Parts: none. The fault was a simple obstruction, not a component failure — nothing was replaced.
The point of the case is what did not happen. A GE dryer motor replacement runs a few hundred dollars once parts, labour, and the service call are added up, and a customer who has already decided the motor is dead is primed to approve it. Accepting that guess and swapping a healthy motor would have cost the customer that money and, worse, would not have fixed anything — because the obstruction, not the motor, was stopping the drum. Opening the machine to find the real cause is a five-minute difference in the diagnostic that saved a needless part and a repeat call.
