A 50/50 Ignition Fault, Six Burners Tested, Nothing Sold: Electrolux ICON Cooktop Service in Inner SW Calgary

Electrolux ICON 36-inch gas cooktop with all six burners reassembled after TechVill ignition service in Calgary

The short version

The customer’s description was as precise as a symptom gets: the igniter works 50% of the time. On an Electrolux ICON 36-inch gas cooktop in inner southwest Calgary, that intermittency had an easy commercial answer — quote a spark ignition module and be done. The module was even in stock. Here’s what a diagnostic looks like when the easy answer isn’t the first move.

Step 1 — check the wiring against the schematic, not against memory. TechVill technician Amin inspected the ignition wiring and connections with the unit’s own wiring diagram in hand, verifying the circuit as designed rather than as assumed. No faults.

Step 2 — clean every spark igniter, not just the complained-about burner. Intermittent ignition on gas cooktops is most often contact and grounding trouble: cooking residue on igniter tips and burner bases bleeds off spark energy — sometimes, not always, which is exactly what produces a maddening 50/50 pattern. All six burners’ ignition components were cleaned back to bare, proper contact.

Step 3 — test all six burners individually. Every burner sparked and lit correctly, every time. The secondary complaint — a loose control knob — was adjusted and secured in the same visit.

Parts replaced: none. Status on the work order: completed, fully functional.

The part we didn’t sell — and the one we researched anyway

Restraint is only half of this case. The other half is forward planning: Amin documented parts availability for this specific model for the customer’s future reference, unprompted. The spark ignition module (part #318079001) is available and in stock — $124 + GST if it’s ever genuinely needed. The control knob assembly (part #318242226), however, is discontinued, with no replacement available. That second fact matters more than the first: the knob that was re-secured today has no parts path if it ever fails outright, which is worth knowing before it becomes a replace-the-cooktop conversation. A customer armed with that information can treat the knob gently and plan ahead; one without it gets surprised.
