A homeowner in Central Burnaby, near Metrotown, booked TechVill for two Fisher & Paykel appliances acting up at the same time: a 36-inch gas range whose front-left burner had stopped lighting cleanly, and a built-in dishwasher whose stainless front panel was pulling away from the door. On paper, both looked like parts jobs. Technician Alex handled the pair in a single visit — and neither needed a new part.

The Problem – Two Appliances, Two Easy Upsells
The range trouble started after a pot of cooking oil boiled over. Afterward, the front-left burner refused to light properly, and the igniter kept clicking even once a flame caught. The homeowner assumed the ignition system had been damaged by the spill.
The dishwasher had a separate, unrelated issue: the decorative stainless front panel was working loose from the door and hanging at the corner.
Both are the kind of complaint a shop can turn into an expensive quote. A clicking, no-light burner invites a “replace the burner assembly” recommendation; a sagging front panel invites “you need a new door panel.” Alex approached both with the same question first — is anything actually broken, or is this a service issue?
Phase 1 – The Gas Range Burner
Alex started at the range. Pulling and inspecting the front-left burner, the cause was plain: the oil overflow had run down into the burner head and across the igniter, and the baked-on residue was doing two things at once. It was blocking the burner ports so gas could not distribute evenly for a clean light, and it was coating the spark igniter so the flame-sensing circuit never confirmed ignition — which is exactly why the igniter kept clicking long after it should have stopped.
Nothing had failed. The burner head, the igniter, and the gas valve were all mechanically and electrically sound. The problem was contamination, not a bad component.
Alex removed the burner head and igniter, cleaned both thoroughly to clear the oil residue out of the ports and off the electrode, reseated everything, and tested. The burner lit on the first turn of the knob, and the clicking stopped the moment the flame was sensed.

Phase 2 – The Dishwasher Door Panel
With the range sorted, Alex moved to the Fisher & Paykel built-in dishwasher (model DW24U6I1). Removing the front panel showed why it was falling off: the screw holes that anchor the panel to the door skin had stripped out. Over years of normal use, the mounting screws had chewed through the plastic threading, and a plastic retaining clip along the bottom edge had worn as well. The panel itself was fine — the mounting hardware behind it had simply given out.
Rather than order a full replacement panel, Alex modified the existing panel to accept fresh hardware, installed new mounting screws into the door skin, refit the retaining clip, and reassembled the door. A test run confirmed the panel held firm and the door sealed and latched normally.

Parts Used – None on Either Appliance
Neither repair required a replacement part. The range was restored with cleaning alone; the dishwasher panel was resecured with new screws and a hardware modification only — no burner assembly, no new door panel. The homeowner paid for the diagnosis and the labour, not for parts that were never needed.
The Result
Both appliances were back in service the same visit. The range burner lights cleanly on the first try and the igniter behaves normally, and the dishwasher panel sits flush and secure, opening and closing without shifting.

What This Case Shows
Two complaints, two chances to sell hardware, and neither called for it. An oil-fouled burner reads like a failed igniter until you clean it; a loose front panel reads like a broken panel until you look at the screw holes behind it. The difference comes down to diagnosing the actual cause before quoting a part.
Fisher & Paykel is a brand TechVill services regularly across gas cooking and dishwashers, and this visit is a good example of the payoff of a same-brand, same-visit dispatch — one technician, one trip, two appliances returned to full function. TechVill repairs Fisher & Paykel appliances across Burnaby and the wider Metro Vancouver area, arriving with the tools to find the real fault rather than defaulting to a parts swap.
