A homeowner in the Shaughnessy neighbourhood of Vancouver called TechVill after their Miele G5975SCVi dishwasher stopped working and displayed an F70 error. On Miele dishwashers, F70 is a leak-detection fault: a float sensor in the base has found water where it shouldn’t be and shut the unit down to prevent flooding. Technician Alex worked through it step by step — and the photos below tell the story better than words.
The starting point. This is a fully integrated Miele G5975SCVi, built flush into custom cabinetry under stone counters — the kind of premium European unit that’s common in Shaughnessy kitchens. From the front, nothing looks wrong. The fault only shows up when you power the machine on.
Confirming the fault. Alex plugged the unit in, and it immediately ran its protective drain pump before posting the F70 “Waterproof fault” message. That behaviour is the tell: the leak-protection system has detected standing water in the base pan and locked the machine out. It’s a safety feature working exactly as designed, not a false alarm.
Reading the rating plate. The model plate confirmed a Miele G5975SCVi (serial 00/101324291) — important, because the water intake and salt-container assemblies are model-specific and have to be matched exactly when parts are ordered.
Finding the source. Alex uninstalled the dishwasher and removed the base panel. The base was full of water — the root cause of the F70 lockout. Tracing it back, the water was coming from two places at once: the water intake valve and the saltwater softener tank were both weeping. He tried re-securing the connections first, but the leak continued, so both assemblies need replacement rather than a simple re-seat.
What we replaced
Both parts are genuine Miele OEM. - Salt container assembly (part #9171053) — the softener reservoir that feeds the ion-exchange system; a cracked or leaking tank drains softener brine into the base pan.
An honest note on this repair
This one is still in progress, and we’d rather say so plainly. The parts are on order with roughly a two-week ETA, and the install is booked for when they arrive. Because the leak was slow and hard to reproduce during the visit, Alex flagged that a further inspection will be done once the new parts are in — to confirm there’s no additional leak point the intermittent flow hid. He removed all the standing water from the base and advised the homeowner to discontinue use until the repair is finished, so no more water accumulates during the wait. That safety advisory matters more than a tidy ending.
The diagnostic and parts were quoted at $1,386 plus 5% GST, for a total of $1,455.30 CAD, itemized across the two OEM assemblies, labour for the install, and a premium-brand service call. The homeowner approved the work and prepaid for the parts, with the labour balance due on completion.
