If the name Cove doesn’t ring a bell next to Sub-Zero and Wolf, that’s because it is the newest member of the family. Sub-Zero builds the refrigeration, Wolf builds the cooking equipment, and Cove is the Sub-Zero Group’s dedicated dishwasher brand — engineered and priced to complete the trio in a custom kitchen. Cove installations are still comparatively rare in Calgary, and repair experience on them is rarer. This case, at an estate property in the Church Ranches area west of the city, is what a Cove repair actually involves.
The Problem — a fault code on an ultra-premium built-in
The customer’s Cove DW2450WS stopped with error code 800140 on its display. On a dishwasher in this tier, fault codes rarely mean simple mechanical wear — the DW2450WS wraps its wash system in electronic supervision, so a persistent code usually points at the control electronics, a major electromechanical component, or both.
Diagnosis — two components implicated, quoted together
TechVill technician Randy interpreted the code and confirmed the fault electrically: error 800140 on this unit traced to two failed components — the main control board and the drain pump motor. That combination is consistent with how drain faults surface on supervised platforms: the board detects a pump that no longer behaves to spec, and the board itself can be damaged or degraded in the same failure event.
Rather than replacing the pump, waiting to see whether the board misbehaved, and booking a second visit, both confirmed components were quoted and replaced together.
The Repair — board, pump, and a deliberate leak check
Components replaced:
- Main control board (part #830088) — the central controller running cycle logic, sensor supervision, and fault detection on the DW2450WS
- Drain pump motor (part #827628) — drives the drain cycle; the electromechanical half of the 800140 fault
Both parts came through the Sub-Zero Group OEM service parts channel — for a brand this young, aftermarket equivalents effectively do not exist, and the control board in particular is specific to Cove’s platform.
After installation, Randy ran the machine through testing with specific attention to the one risk a drain-pump replacement introduces: seal integrity. No leaking was found during or after testing — checked deliberately, not assumed — and the dishwasher returned to normal operation. The repair carries a 3-month labour warranty.
The cost, in the open
The complete repair came to $1,326.57 + GST = $1,392.90 CAD: parts $776.57, parts handling $30, labour $520. It was collected in the standard two stages — a prepayment at diagnosis and the balance on completion — and the two payments reconcile to the quoted total to the cent.
That number deserves context rather than apology. A DW2450WS replaced new runs well past this figure before installation and panel work, and an estate-property kitchen built around the Sub-Zero–Wolf–Cove trio isn’t a place where a mismatched substitute dishwasher makes sense. A dual-component OEM repair that preserves the unit — with the parts lineage the manufacturer specifies — is the economically sane path.
