An Edmonton homeowner had watched their Blomberg oven fail slowly for about a year: the temperature dial went from slightly sticky, to stiff across its whole range, to completely seized the day before they called. That progression is the tell. A rotary oven control that gets harder to turn over months is rarely just a worn knob — the mechanical link between the knob and the internal thermostat switch is degrading at the same time, and fixing only the part you can see leaves the other failure waiting.
TechVill technician Robert confirmed exactly that: the control had failed on both the external knob (the commutator) and the internal thermostat switch behind it. Replacing one without the other would have brought the customer back within weeks, so both went in together.
Components replaced:
- Thermostat switch (part #210600043) — the internal switch that sets and holds the oven’s temperature by cycling the heating element
- Commutator knob (part #250600042) — the external control the user turns; its shaft interface drives the thermostat switch
With both parts installed, Robert tested the oven and burners across the range and confirmed full, smooth operation. The completed repair carries a 3-month labour warranty.
Because Blomberg is a European brand less common in Canadian kitchens, its thermostat and knob assemblies come through Blomberg’s OEM service parts catalogue rather than off a shelf — the part numbering (the 2xxxxxxxx service prefix) is the manufacturer’s own. On a temperature control, that matters: an aftermarket knob or switch that doesn’t match the original’s shaft geometry or switching calibration reintroduces the same sticky, drifting behaviour the repair was meant to end.
The repair came to $790.65 including GST — OEM thermostat switch and knob, plus the diagnostic and install labour to fit and verify them.
