The short version

The ticket read like a hundred others: stacked washer-dryer, clothes still wet after a full cycle. On an LG WKEX200HBA laundry center, that complaint usually ends with a parts invoice — a heating element, a thermal fuse, a blower motor. This Burnaby call ended with none of those, because none of them were broken.

What the customer reported

The dryer wasn’t drying properly. On a stacked laundry center — the combined washer-and-electric-dryer cabinet common in condos, townhomes and tight laundry rooms — that single symptom maps to half a dozen unrelated causes: a worn heating element, a failed blower, a control fault, a clogged lint path, or a venting problem. What the diagnostic showed

TechVill technicians Shahid and Alexander inspected the exhaust path before condemning any heating components — and the exhaust path was the whole story, in two places at once. The external duct run wasn’t vented correctly out of the side of the unit to the wall vent. And inside the cabinet, the exhaust wasn’t connected to the blower wheel housing at all: every cubic foot of hot, moist air the dryer produced was being pushed into the unit’s own cabinet instead of out of the building.

The heating element tested fine. The blower ran fine. The machine was doing its job perfectly and the result was going nowhere — an installation defect, not a component failure. Whether the connection was missed at original installation or lost during some later move or service, the fix was the same.

The repair

The internal exhaust was reconnected to the blower housing, the external venting was corrected to route properly through the wall vent, and the unit was run through a complete drying cycle to confirm the repair holds. Eighty minutes on site, including the elimination work that ruled out the heater, blower, controls and lint system first.

Parts replaced: none. And the work order says so plainly — including the note that no parts warranty applies, because a parts warranty covers parts, and there weren’t any.

Why the difference matters

The invoice came to $222.08 including GST — essentially the service call plus the reconnection labour. A “let’s try the heating element” approach would have cost $400–$700 in parts and labour and left the actual problem in place, with wet clothes to prove it. The skill the customer paid for wasn’t installing anything; it was identifying, in one visit, that nothing needed installing.
