On a single-phase AC induction motor like the one in this hood, that “powered but stalled” pattern points to one of two parts: the motor itself (seized bearings or failed windings) or the start capacitor. The capacitor supplies the phase-shifted current that creates starting torque; when it fails open, the motor sits energized but produces no torque and never breaks away from rest.
Rather than guess which of the two had failed, both were replaced as a paired repair—the right call on a high-use ventilation motor, where leaving the other part near end-of-life invites a callback within months. The control housing cover, damaged during the failure, was replaced as well so the customer received a complete, sealed-up repair rather than a partial one.

- Service motor, 600 CFM (part #W10294006) — drives the blower wheel that pulls cooking exhaust through the hood
